What Is DTF Printing?
DTF (Direct-to-Film) printing is a process where full-color designs are printed onto a special PET film, coated in a hot-melt adhesive powder, cured with heat, and then pressed onto fabric using a heat press. It’s compatible with almost all fabric types and delivers vibrant, durable results.
Unlike vinyl, screen printing, or DTG, DTF allows for:
-
Full-color artwork (CMYK + White)
-
Fast setup with no screens or weeding
-
Great performance on cotton, poly, blends & more
-
Small batch and one-off production

🔍 How Does DTF Printing Work? Step-by-Step
Here’s how the DTF process works at DTF Print Pros:
-
🎨 Step 1: Design Creation
Start with a digital design file (usually PNG or PDF) at 300 DPI with a transparent background. You can include full-color artwork, gradients, photos, logos, and text. -
🖨️ Step 2: Print on PET Film
We use advanced printers to print your design in reverse onto clear PET film using CMYK+White ink layers. -
🌡️ Step 3: Apply Adhesive Powder
After printing, the wet ink is coated with a fine hot-melt adhesive powder, which bonds with the ink and helps it stick to fabric later. -
🔥 Step 4: Cure the Film
The adhesive is cured using a heat press or oven to stabilize it. Now the film is ready to be shipped or pressed. -
🤲 Step 5: Press to Fabric
The cured DTF transfer is heat pressed onto the desired fabric (T-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, etc.) using 300–315°F heat for 12–15 seconds. Then it’s peeled — either hot or cold — depending on the adhesive.
That’s it! You now have a vibrant, soft, stretch-resistant print on your garment.
